Funny watches are not just for kids

Okay, how do we feel about a guy who wears a tie with Bugs Bunny on it? Or Donald Duck socks? Let’s be honest, some of us are happy to roll their eyes when they see others wear “cartoon-stuff”. However, when it comes to watches, it looks the sentiment is a little different. Cartoon watches or other funny ones are not considered to be cheesy at all. Dummy watches are not just for kids.

There are quite some sophisticated and original models out there. Let’s look at some of them.

This watch is a bit more exclusive, to use an understatement. A limited edition of only 20 individually numbered pieces. Just some numbers: both case and dial are made of 18K yellow gold and the watch contains over 220 diamonds. The panther eyes are set with pear-shaped emeralds.

MoMA Pollock black & white watch

A painting of famous artist Jackson Pollock is quite expensive, to say the least. This watch, however, is quite affordable. It shows a detail from Jackson Pollock’s painting Untitled from 1954, which is part of the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Van Cleef & Arpels “Midnight Planetarium”

Armand Nicolet South Africa Funny Watches Van Cleef ArpelsThis watch should rather be called a timepiece. An impossibly tiny solar system revolves around a dial in accurate harmony. If you stared at this watch for 29 years, you would see Saturn make a complete revolution around the dial. This is really an impressive example of intricate watchmaking.

The self-winding mechanical movement has 396 parts all together and is equipped with a planetarium module, developed by the Dutch Christiaan Van der Klaauw.

Armand Nicolet watches are now also available in South Africa. We kindly invite you to visit our webshop.
